What is IP Anonymisation?

IP Anonymisation automatically masks your visitors' IP addresses in all consent logs. For IPv4, the last octet is replaced with 0, for IPv6 the last 80 bits are masked. This way no personal data is stored in the logs — fully automatic and without configuration.

Questions about IP Anonymisation

Which IP parts are masked?

For IPv4, the last octet is replaced with 0 (e.g. 192.168.1.123 becomes 192.168.1.0). For IPv6, the last 80 bits are masked.

Does this also work with IPv6?

Yes. Consenta automatically detects whether an IPv4 or IPv6 address is present and applies the corresponding masking.

Is geolocation still possible?

The geolocation function works with the full IP before anonymisation. Only the anonymised version is stored in the logs.

Are old logs retroactively anonymised?

Yes. When activating IP anonymisation, existing logs are also retroactively anonymised. This process cannot be undone.
