HMAC (Hash-based Message Authentication Code) is a cryptographic method. The cookie is signed with a secret key — any change to the cookie value invalidates the signature.

How does the consent hash work?

The entire consent status (selected categories, timestamp, version) is stored as a SHA-256 hash. This hash is unique and can be verified at any time.

Is this sufficient for authorities?

What happens with tampering?
